This weekend the 2020 ACU Judd KTM British Youth Championship gets underway at Little Silver, Exeter. We caught up with 250 rider Tom Murphy who has joined the newly formed GRT Holeshot KTM team to catch up following last season and looking ahead to this year.

2020 sees you join the GRT Holeshot KTM team onboard a KTM 250. How did this deal come about and how do you feel competing for the team in the ACU Judd KTM British Youth Championship?

“At the end of last year I started to talk to Dan and Jon Giffard about them starting a team for 2020 and it snowballed from there really. I’m very proud to be riding for GRT Holeshot KTM. I am pumped to be taking part this year in the British Open Championship as this year will be a big year for me.”

2019 saw you end the season sixth in the MXY2 Support Championship. This year sees you compete in the Official British Open Championship, which is 10 rounds this year. What are your thoughts on this?

“It’s great to have the extra rounds at some of the UK’s best tracks making it feel very professional for us.”

What have you been up to during the off-season getting ready for this season?

“During the off-season I have put many hours on my GRT Holeshot KTM which has brought me a lot of confidence coming into this year.”

What is your plan for the year and your thoughts on the season opener at Little Silver this weekend?

“My plan for the season is to be consistent every round on the podium and to be in the running for the Championship title. With regards to the first round at Little Silver, it is mega as it is a great track and fun to race on. My plan for the weekend will be to be on that podium.”
