The young MXGP rookie takes a chance on the successful Spanish tandem to face his first season in MXGP.
The current MX2 World Champion, Jorge Prado, will put himself in the hands of Carlos Coloma and Mikel Zabala to develop his physical training. After achieving his back to back titles, Jorge has made the mandatory jump to the MXGP category and faces the difficult challenge of competing with 450cc motorcycles against the best riders in the world.
Prado, who is integrated into the Italian structure of the Red Bull KTM Factory team, will be trained from now on by the successful Spanish tandem made up of Coloma and Zabala. Carlos Coloma is one of the reference among the mountain bike athletes nationwide. The 38 year-old biker, from La Rioja, is still active and one of the best mountain bikers in the world. Moreover, he has formed a PRO MTB team, where he competes alongside his pupil Rocío García and his colleague and teammate Pablo Rodríguez. But, with no doubt, the highlight of his career is the Olympic bronze he got in Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
This achievement would have been more complicated without the support of his coaches Jose Barruetabeña and Mikel Zabala. It will be Mikel together with Carlos who will help Jorge in his personal and professional development. But, who is Mikel Zabala? He is Coloma’s coach, the person who guided him on his way to that Olympic medal. Mikel, Dr. in Sport Science by University of Granada, is a physical trainer of Movistar Team, the Pro Tour Spanish road team.
This two guys fusion, Coloma-Zabala, makes the perfect tandem for Jorge Prado’s evolution and progress in his new challenge. The 19 year-old double world champion didn’t hesitate to rely on them to enhance a very important part of his physical preparation. Prado, a talented rider well-known for his work capacity and perseverance, is aware of the need for a great effort to achieve his goals in the highest class.
Jorge Prado showed his enthusiasm: “I know well Carlos’s career and Mikel’s prestige and I am sure they will provide me a lot of knowledge of their experience. In the MXGP World Championship, it is essential to get a high-level physical training and I know that I’ll have the perfect partners to continue developing my career” Carlos Coloma proudly answer as follows: “I am really excited about this very motivating project. It’s not every day someone with such a talent and humbleness decides to trust you to improve his training. Share it with experience of Mikel Zabala in the clinical part, makes us a very complete duo. We will try to contribute to the seamless and brilliant professional and personal career of Jorge Prado, his family and team. What they have achieved so far is certainly admirable“.
On the other hand, Mikel Zabala pointed out: “For me it is an incredible challenge, and sharing it with Carlos is a guarantee of sparkle and excitement in the process. We have always followed Jorge and his family, as I am passionate about MX. It is the sport, together with cycling, I have dedicated my life on, so this increases my enthusiasm for this project. Adding the awesome talent that Jorge unarguably has, becomes it a privilege. We will try to support this great rider in the best possible way”.
