Following a long period of being unable to race due to lockdown across the world. What did you get up to during lockdown and do to prepare yourself for the season restart?
For me the lockdown was really a blessing. My wife and I have been all over the globe the last couple of years so it gave us time to get settled into our new home in England. Worked on my music a bit and probably cycled more than anything else trying to build up more of my base fitness after being sick most of 2019. Towards the end of lockdown I was able to get back on the bike and get some much needed hours on the new Yamaha 450.
Looking back to the first two rounds of the 2020 season, how did they go for you?
The first two rounds for me were definitely a struggle which was to be expected after all the change this year. It’s just going to take some time to make the transition to the 450 class which is so competitive these days.
What are your thoughts on the new MXGP calendar with three events in Latvia, four rounds in Italy and three back to backs in Belgium?
I don’t mind the back to back races at all. I actually prefer the one day format although three rounds of Lommel back to back will definitely be tough!
Looking ahead to Latvia next weekend for round three what are your plans for the event along with thoughts on the circuit?
We flew over yesterday and staying in a hotel for the duration of the races. We’ve had to schedule a COVID test before we enter Latvia and will be tested throughout our stay in Latvia, which will be a bit of a pain but I think everyone’s just happy to be back at the races at this point. Hopefully everything goes smoothly and we’re able to get in the schedule that’s out now.
