Round three of the Dirt Store ACU British Championship headed to Blaxhall, Ipswich. Unfortunately with Josh Gilbert sidelined for this weekend, it was just Cas Valk under the awning. Words: SS KTM
With the conditions suiting Cas, he showed good pace in qualifying with P2 just 0.1 off of first. He bettered this in race one with a great start and came through to the lead early, rode smooth and calculated to secure the Moto win.
The day then took an unexpected turn with 3 out of the 4 onsite ambulances being used with 2 injured riders and a spectator who had fallen ill. This meant with insufficient ambulance cover being able to return, the meeting had to abandoned and the results from the first block stood as the overall. Cas came away with the overall win and is now only 2 points away from the red plate.
Cas: “Happy about the day at Blaxhall. I had a good qualifying with p2 only 0.1 of p1 and had a good start in race1. I quickly got in the lead and managed the race good to win it! Unfortunately there was no second race due to some circumstances with the ambulances. This gave me the win on the day so happy with that! Now I have 2 weekends off before we go again in Foxhill!”
Josh has had his shoulder assessed and recovery is well underway and looking very positive.
Team Manager Shaun Simpson: “It’s a shame we were a man down at Blaxhall this weekend. Josh is making a steady recovery and we will see him back at Foxhill for round four. Cas delivered for us this weekend with a very strong Moto one that gave us the overall on the day. It was great to see a good start, no mistakes and making moves to the front early. Pretty flawless ride. We will use the break now to build on what we have and raise the bar for the second half of the season.”
