One rider who is looking to claim his spot in the top 10 in his first year of the Big Wheel 85cc Championship is Charley Irwin who has competed in the Official ACU British Motocross Championship for a number of years. Charley started in the 65cc class back in 2016.

We caught up with Charley ahead of this weekend’s third round at Fatcat Moto Parc as he prepares for the journey over from Northern Ireland.

RHL: How has the season gone so far for you?

Charley Irwin: “The season has gone good so far. The Big Wheel 85cc class is tough but I think I am doing good so far in the Championship.”

RHL: Whitby played host to the second round of this years Championship and was a new venue to the calendar. How was the second round for you?

Charley Irwin: “I liked the track at Whitby for the second round. I think it’s a good track where I got some good results. I think I could of rode better but I have to just forget about it and get on with the next round.”

RHL: This weekend we are at Fatcat Moto Parc in Doncaster for the halfway point of the 2019 season. What are your thoughts on the track, plus what are your plans and goals for the weekend?

Charley Irwin: “I like the track as its my type of circuit because it’s a sand track and there is a lot of sand tracks back at home which is the type I prefer to ride. I am hoping to try and get some top 10 results this weekend.”

RHL: You currently sit 15th in the British Big Wheel 85cc Championship with 237 points and only 13 points behind Jake Randall in 14th. How does it feel being in the top 15 in the Official ACU British Big Wheel 85cc Youth Motocross Championship?

Charley Irwin: “Yes it feels good to be 15th in a British Championship, as I said the Big Wheel class is tough and its only my first year. I have got 10th place the last two years in the British Youth Championship, so I am hoping to get the same again this year.”

RHL: Can you tell us a bit about what you do between meetings in regards to training and getting time on the bike to practice?

Charley Irwin: “Between each meeting I go out training with Martin Barr and get to the gym once a week.”

RHL: Finally is there anyone who you would like to thank?

Charley Irwin: “I would like to thank Russell’s Motorcycles, Agnew Recovery, G&G Ross, Mud Buster, G Force Suspension, SGUT MX, Cliffs Male Grooming and of course Martin Barr for the training.”
