The weekend of June 8 and 9 saw the second round of the JuddKTM British Youth Motocross Championship take place at Skelder Bank, Whitby, which produced some incredible racing from Britain’s best youth riders in both wet and dry conditions. Robbie Daly, Reece Jones, Finley Evans, Sam Atkinson, Preston Williams and Dominic Lancett took the overall honours in their respective classes.
In the ACU British Rookie Championships, which award riders for the first season in each category, Robbie Daly, Reece Jones, Mckenzie Marshall, Charlie Palmer, Louie Kessell and Max Ingham took the top spots for the weekend.
When it came to the Auto class there was no stopping Robbie Daly on his Judd Orange Brigade in Whitby, with the youngster taking all five race wins and maximum points during the weekend. Daly remains unbeaten in 2019. In second place was George Cherry, who didn’t race the opening round of the series, and Lucas Lee, who is second in the championship, was third. Rounding out the top five was Tommie Perfect and Brian Gyles.
In the Junior 65cc class Reece Jones put on a strong performance with four of the five race wins, whilst Freddie Gardiner was runner up with a consistent performance throughout. Brandon Buckley was third, while second race winner Charlie Richmond was fourth, and in fifth was Archie-Jay Gridham.
It was a big battle for the overall in the Small Wheel 85cc class with three different race winners over the weekend. SJP Moto’s Finley Evans took the top spot on the podium on Sunday, with just a two-point advantage over Tyla Hooley. Mckenzie Marshall was just three points behind in third with one moto victory from round two, and he moves into third in the standings. Louis Vincent and Shaun Mahoney completed the top five.
The Big Wheel 85cc class saw Sam Atkinson taking the podium overall and clinching the series’ lead as SJP Moto’s Charlie Palmer battled for second place on the weekend. Charlie Palmer was third overall, whilst Revo Husqvarna’s Ollie Colmer and Judd Orange Brigade’s Bailey Johnston took fourth and fifth positions.
In the 125cc and Open races there were some bar banging battles especially with the front-runners in both classes. Taking the top of the podium in the 125cc class was Judd Orange Brigade’s Preston Williams thanks to a consistent performance over the weekend, and the youngster retains his championship lead going into round three. Jack Grayshon was second and Judd Orange Brigade’s Louie Kessell took third. Clinching the top spot in the open class was Verde Sports KTM rider Dominic Lancett with four of the five available race victories. Max Ingham was second and Judd Orange Brigade’s Drew Anderson was third.
The SCOTT Sports Holeshot Awards were given to riders reaching the SCOTT Sports line first for each moto throughout the weekend, with a total of 30 winners taking those all important points towards the Championship standings.
The Judd KTM British Youth Championship heads to Fatcat MotoParc in Doncaster on July 6 & 7 for round three of the series.
