Brrrr. Detroit was cold: February in Detroit is expected to be bitter cold and it lived up to its reputation. The cold temperatures make for a unique pit setup for the weekend, where we had the crew work out of the transporter for the weekend. The generator and the heaters ran non-stop the entire weekend to maintain some level of normalcy for the riders. Even with the cold and snowy commutes back and forth to the stadium, both Mark and Max took it all in stride. The race day was a little complicated, but the team banded together to have Max finish ninth and Mark eighteenth. Words: Mike Bonacci of ClubMX
Looking ahead to Arlington and hopefully warmer weather, Jett and Coty will return to action. The break for them came at the right time, and with some good training days over the last few weeks, both are ready to return to the track. Arlington will host the Military Appreciation round and we will have a custom SKDA graphics kit to support the program and pay tribute to the amazing men and women that support our country. On our team, Coty’s mechanic Dakota Weber and our videographer Rob Filebark are both veterans, and we are grateful for their service.
COTY SCHOCK #37
Coty is planning to pick up where he left off at the front of the pack. He currently sits sixth in points, but not that far out of third with more top finishes. He spent some of the last few weeks getting his Yamaha to a familiar point of comfort that will help him in Arlington. To keep it light, he rode his YZ125 at a Friday practice a few weeks ago. The training kids had a blast watching and interacting with him throughout the day. Something to be said about hearing the two-stroke cut through the afternoon sun that made for an exciting and memorable day. FUN? Just a little advance notice – Coty is going to ride his 250 in the 450 class at Daytona. Something you would think more riders would do – there is no better training than actually racing.
JETT REYNOLDS #54
Nobody likes excuses, but Jett has not shown nearly what he is capable of just yet. With all the adversity in the rear-view mirror, he will line up in Arlington in the best position of the season thus far. We have seen glimpses of his skill with a few holeshots and laps led, and we all feel there is more to come. One thing about Jett – he has a great attitude. Now that he is one hundred percent healthy, it is time for him to get his season started. The switch from west to east and then back to west for one race gives the team a brief reprieve from the grind, but it will be all hands on deck when we get to Indianapolis for the first showdown.
We have continued the production of our popular video series. Please share it as it shows some very cool behind the scenes things that most people never see. This one shows all the action for the first round of the east with Max and Mark.
