Following a positive opening round at Culham, Conrad Mewse took the overall win following a solid qualifying session and taking pole. Onboard his own team for the 2022 season with backing from Stebbing, Bike Sure and many other partners we caught up with Conrad to recap on the season opener, running his own team and looking ahead to Foxhill on Sunday 17th April.

Firstly, how was the opening round for you? You had two outstanding rides in both motos at Culham.

“Good start to the British Championship for me at round one going pole in qualifying and 1-1 in the races. I felt great all day and very comfortable thanks to Grizzly Racing and Technical Solutions.”

This year you’re racing for your own team backed by Stebbings and Bike Sure. What is it like running your own team and have more control on everything?

“Yes I made the decision to start my own team with very little time to go before the season started. It was very challenging and definitely something new for me but I have had some amazing support from some great people and because of that I’ve been able to line up for my last year in the MX2 class.”

Many riders look up to yourself as they work through their youth careers in the sport. What advice or guidance would you give to them looking to complete in MX2 in the future?

“I think it’s great that the Revo ACU British Motocross Championship have introduced the youth motocross scene into the adults. It gives them a taste of the tracks we ride and inspire them to keep putting the work in.”

The track at Culham was tough which was a comment from a lot of the riders. What were your thoughts?

“The track was very technical and made for some great racing. It’s very rare to get track conditions like these which makes it very exciting and pretty new for everyone.”

Looking at your performance at Culham is there a particular element of your riding or preparation which you want to work and improve on ahead of the next round at Foxhill?

“I believe there is always room for improvement but I feel we are on the right path and we just need to keep working at what we are doing and trust the program.”

Foxhill is up next for the British Championship. How are you feeling going into the round? What are your thoughts on the circuit?

“I always look forward to returning to Foxhill, that again is something we don’t practice too often as there isn’t many places like it. It’s nice and local for me so hoping to see lots of familiar faces and hopefully we can put on some great racing.”

Finally lets look back on the 2021 season quickly. You ended the 2022 season at Foxhill third after a bad second moto. What are your expectations for this years round?

“Yes 3rd overall at Foxhill last year… was looking to be a perfect day for me until a stone caught my chain. I don’t have any expectations, of course I would like to win but my main goal is to ride like myself and the rest will fall into place.”
