The three rounds of the PP Sports ACU British Women’s Motocross Championship is complete. The final stop took place at Whitby on July 10th and 11th and what a weekend of racing as the Championship comes to an end.
We caught up with the 2021 ACU British Women’s Motocross Championship Adult Champion Elaine MacEachern to see how she is feeling after the crowning.
How does it feel being the PP Sports ACU British Women’s Adult Motocross Championship Champion?
“To be WMX British Champion is an amazing feeling, especially as it’s my first season back after a three and a half year break from motocross. I set out to do my best and see what happens and fortunately I was able to win it.”
How was Whitby for you with three out of four race wins for the final round?
“Whitby was a great round for me with three moto wins. I went into Whitby with only a 9 point lead so I knew finishing up the front was important. First race was close but I got the job done.”
Final moto at Whitby you battled hard with Kathryn Booth. How was it for you in your perspective?
“Final moto started off well with getting the clean sweep and getting all the holeshots from the weekend, but with already having a good point lead, I just needed to finish the moto. I got a comfortable pace and took to the line in 2nd, I didn’t need to take any risks. I was already nursing an arm injury I picked up at Little Silver, the harsh landing of some of the jumps was uncomfortable and sore.”
Looking back over the three rounds, which was the highlight round for you and why?
“I would say that it was the first round that was my highlight. By not having the lead after the first round, it spurred me on and gave me the motivation to train, get fitter and come back stronger for each round. It was great to lead after Little Silver and winning at Whitby. The sport is all about looking ahead to the next rider and seeing what you need to do to pass them. I was motivated to go out there to beat them and win, I managed to achieve that.”
What are your thoughts on having a dedicated Official British Women’s Motocross Championship?
“By having this Championship it has been a boost and exactly what the women have been looking for in the UK. I came back to the sport because they announced this Championship. When talking with Gareth at RHL alongside all the riders, its great to see they want to give us this opportunity to race on the best tracks in the UK. This is the next step for the Europeans or even the World Championship for some riders.”
Finally what advise would you give a female rider looking to compete in the British Championship?
“The best advice I could give is, you don’t know until you try and don’t rule yourself out. This was a really fun season, the battles in the class were awesome, good fun and clean racing. If you’re thinking about doing the Championship in 2022, you should go for it.”
