Pauls Jonass sustained a significant setback this past Sunday at the MXGP of Germany, fracturing his collarbone and shoulder blade in a heavy first-turn crash at the start of the second moto. The injury will keep the former world champion out of action for an extended period as he begins his recovery process. Words: Live MX Editor
“MXGP of Germany ended up in a hospital bed. Crashed hard with three laps to go in the first moto, while running seventh. Broken collarbone and shoulder blade. Waiting for further checks and news from the doctor. Another bump in the road, but I won’t give up,” posted the Latvian.
Having shown brilliant speed all weekend, which included him going fastest in free practice, securing sixth in the qualifying race and running some excellent lap times before his incident in the opening race, this is a real blow for Jonass.
He’ll now miss his home round at Kegums, which both he and the fans were immensely looking forward to.
Having already missed three races due to injury, he’ll be keen to return as soon as possible and regain his rhythm.
