For years, Gerrit Wolsink had the title “The hero of the Herikerberg” to his name. Wolsink won no fewer than six major international races on the Markelo circuit. But on Sunday this came to an end because Jeffrey Herlings increased his number of victories on the Herikerberg to seven and is the new hero of the Herikerberg.
Herlings didn’t get the win as the Frenchman Romain Febvre gave him a good match in both motos and led for a long time in both the first and second moto. Still, it was Herlings who struck in the last ten minutes and won both motos. Febvre was second (2-2) ahead of Brian Bogers (5-3). Calvin Vlaanderen (4-4) and Micha Boy de Waal (7-6) completed the top five!
In the 250 class, Kay de Wolf provided fireworks. De Wolf didn’t get off to a very good start in both motos and even had to come back from last place in the second moto after a fall at the start. De Wolf showed his class in Markelo and saw all the work he put in be rewarded with a double moto victory. Home rider Rick Elzinga gave everything he had for his own fans and finished second with a 2-3 in the motos ahead of Roan van de Moosdijk who, after a crash in the first moto, did not get any further than sixth place, but took revenge in the second moto by to be second. The Dane Mikkel Haarup was fourth (4-4) ahead of Andrea Bonacorsi (3-7).
In the 125 class, Janis Martins Reisulis controlled both motos to extend his lead in the standings. Behind him three riders finished with the same number of points. Kasimir Hindersson eventually finished second (4-2) ahead of Max Werner (3-3) and Gyan Doensen (2-4). Damien Knuiman claimed fifth place with a 6-5 in the motos!
In the 85cc class, Dean Gregoire took his first ever overall victory in a Dutch Masters competition with a 2-1 in the motos. The only 12-year-old Gregoire rode a very strong race in Markelo. Behind him it was Dex Kooiker who finished second with a 1-2 in the motos ahead of Jarne Bervoets (5-3). Dex van den Broek was fourth with two fourth places and Dani Heitink crashed after a third place in the first moto in the first lap of the second moto and had to fight his way back from the middle. Heitink managed to take a fifth place and thus kept the damage limited. Before the start of the last game, Bervoets, Kooiker and Heitink are in the lead with the same number of points.
