Reigning FIM World Supercross Championship SX2 title winner, Max Anstie, will return to the series in 2024 as a Wildcard entry for the upcoming WSX Canadian GP in Vancouver. Words: WSX
Taking place on 26 October, the WSX Canadian GP marks the first race of the 2024 season and will see top-flight Supercross action return to the city of Vancouver for the first time in almost 20 years.
In 2023, Anstie dominated WSX’s SX2 250cc class by taking overall podium finishes in every event while also finishing inside the top three in each individual GP race to beat Shane McElrath to the championship title by 76 points.
Across his career in WSX to date, the British racer has missed out on the top three on only two occasions, making him an incredible force with ruthless consistency, unstoppable speed, and a key contender for the race at BC Place.
Max Anstie, 2023 SX2 World Champion & SX2 Wildcard Rider, WSX Canadian GP, said: “The WSX Canadian GP is a fantastic fixture to start a season with, and I’m looking forward to being back on the SX2 grid. Competing as a Wildcard rider is very different to being a full-time competitor because when you go onto the track, you arguably have nothing to lose. After ending 2023 on top in SX2, I want to maintain that form in Vancouver by fighting at the front, hunting down podiums, and hopefully, claiming the overall victory.”
Alongside 28 full-time riders across the championship’s premier WSX 450cc class and SX2 category, up to four Wildcard riders will contest each WSX event in 2024. Following the WSX Canadian GP, the series will race at HBF Park in Perth for the WSX Australian GP on 23-24 November, before closing the season at Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi on 4 December.
Tom Burwell, CEO, FIM World Supercross Championship, added: “Max is an incredibly talented rider, and we’re delighted to welcome him back to the championship for the WSX Canadian GP this October. Having our reigning SX2 World Champion returning for one event only will make our season-opener just that extra special, and from the action in SX2 to what is set to be a titanic battle in our premier WSX category, Vancouver will be an unforgettable evening for everyone involved.”
