Following last weekends Michelin MX Nationals, the Phoenix Tools Apico Kawasaki were back in action at the final round of the championship at Cusses Gorse.
Coming into the event Carlton Husband was just 10-points down in the Pro MX2 Championship battle for the Pro title after leading the championship earlier in the year. In the MXY250 class, Sam Atkinson also had an outside chance of claiming the title.
The qualifying sessions for all three riders saw Jason Meara go 8th fastest in the MX1 class and Carlton Husband was 9th fastest in MX2, while Sam Atkinson was fastest in the MXY250 class on Saturday.
In the Pro races it was going to be all eyes on Carlton in his battle for the title. When the gate dropped both Carlton and Jason were at the front of the field and battling for the lead positions in their classes. As the race progressed Carlton secured 3rdplace and beat his title rival by one place and claimed back 2 points in the championship, while Jason continued his strong ride to finish 6th.
Going into the second moto Carlton knew it was to be a very tight race and meant he had to give his all. Unfortunately, Carlton suffered a crash on the opening lap and had to battle from the back off the pack and was unable to make up the points needed as he finished 11th. Jason had another superb ride to claim 7th and 6thoverall on the day and second in the Pro MX1 championship.
In the MXY250 class Sam started the weekend off with a tough 5th place on the opening meeting. Sam then took a race win in the second moto and followed it up by claiming two 3rd on Sunday. The results were enough to give Sam 3rd overall on the weekend and claim 5th in the championship standings.
Barry Moore – Team Owner – What can I say apart from we gave it our best shot, even getting Carlton to ride 3 days after dislocating his shoulder with 2 fractures. We did all we could to claim the team’s first Pro title for Kawasaki and all our amazing sponsors, but luck wasn’t on our side in race 2 at Cusses, I couldn’t have asked anymore from Carlton. Jason over the past few months has really impressed me with his attitude and has strung together some strong rides which has secured him 2nd overall in the Pro MX1 championship. Sam took 3rd overall to claim another National podium, Sam narrowly missed out on a season championship top 3 by only 9 points in the Michelin MX Nationals but is still in a strong position in the Revo ACU British championship. Finally a massive well done to Paul, Neil and all the MX Nationals team for another great series, looking forward to next year already.
Carlton Husband – I’m gutted with how it finished in the last race today, but it is what it is. I gave it my all and just came short on the day. I want to say Congratulation to John Adamson on winning the Championship. Massive thank you to the team and my family and friends for all their support over this year.
Jason Meara – Solid day at Cusses for the final MX Nationals, I had a 6-7 score card for 6th overall. My starts were and the riding was good and we’re getting closer to the front guys each weekend. I’m looking forward to keeping the ball rolling into the final 2 rounds of the British now. Again, massive thanks to my whole team, the guys have been a great support all year through the rough and the smooth, so I thank them for that.
Sam Atkinson – I started the weekend by going pole and then in the first race I was leading but it was raining heavy and I crashed and finished 5th. In the second race I got into the lead and took the win so I was happy with that. In the first race on the Sunday, I took a 3rd place and again in the last race of the season, after a bad start I recovered to finish 3rd and got 3rd overall.
