Having undergone a resurrection at the hands of former Grand Prix rider Stuart Flockhart, the Championship will now be under the guidance of another former rider, ex British Championship competitor Johnny Hamilton, perhaps best known for his work designing and building Grand Prix circuits over the last two decades.

Stuart’s hard work in his promotion of the series was a huge shot in the arm for the sport but it is perhaps his work of helping to reunite the sport in Scotland under one single sanctioning body that will be remembered as his most significant contribution.

Johnny explained, “for personal reasons, Stuart has had to take a brief backward step from things, but we hope and expect to see him back soon”

“I’m motivated to maintain and develop upon the momentum Stuart and Louise have created over the last 3 years with the SACU. It’s been such an unexpected boost for the sport.”

2023 will be a 6 round series that avoids any major date clashes with the English based domestic series.

“This puts us in position to secure a commitment to the series from all 3 of Scotland’s current and former GP riders as well as other top UK talent,” said Johnny.

“We hope to have a prize fund announced soon that will make our championship not just the most affordable to enter but also one of the most lucrative.”

By producing a friendly and welcoming, low-pressure environment for the kids and hobby riders whilst also having three of the fastest Scotsman to have ever ridden a motocross bike verbally committed to the series (in Billy Mac, Shaun Simpson, and John Adamson), this means Scottish racing next year really will have the best of all worlds.

Scotland is renowned for having an embarrassment of riches when it comes to the tracks, and this will all be showcased next year. The championship will start first and finish last of the major UK series and having the luxury of 2 of the deepest sand tracks in the UK to ensure the open and close of the series will happen in good racing conditions regardless of weather.

“Aside from the sand tracks, we have the option of a red loamy sand track in the Grampian mountains, we have a hard pack circuit nestled in the stunning scenery of the west coast lined up for the second week of summer holidays, we have spectacular American style track in central Scotland and lastly and not least, an unashamedly traditional grass on venue. It’s vital we have a full variety of circuits to truly test our 2023 champions,” said Johnny.

The SACU are pleased to announce that Johnny Hamilton Douglas will deliver the SACU MX Championship for 2023. Johnny is a well-established track builder who has a great team around him to deliver the championship and is very excited to continue the great work Stuart and Louise have done over the last 3 years.

Johnny has set the dates to ensure they don’t clash with the major British Championship dates which will allow rider to compete South of the border.
