The Dutch Masters of Motocross started in a very positive way on Sunday at the Harfsen circuit. The audience was present in large numbers and got to see great matches.
In the 500 class, the public could enjoy a battle between Jeffrey Herlings and Romain Febvre in both heats. Both went around the circuit at a high pace, but in the end it was the reigning champion, Herlings, who crossed the finish line ahead of Febvre in both heats. Calvin Vlaanderen is clearly still short of driving hours due to an injury in the preseason, but rode in a controlled manner to a third place twice! The performance of the Finn Jere Haavisto was strikingly strong, who managed to finish fourth in the daily rankings with two fourth places. Freek van der Vlist also started the championship strongly and after finishing sixth twice, he is fifth in the standings!
The 250 class became a prey for Cas Valk. Valk managed to cross the finish line as winner in both heats and is therefore the first leader in the championship. Rick Elzinga was still struggling with jet lag from the Argentine Grand Prix, but managed to limit the damage with a 2-3 in the heats. The Spaniard Oriol Oliver was particularly involved in the battle at the front in the second moto and then came second. With a fourth place in the first heat, he finished in third place in the daily rankings, ahead of his teammate Hakon Fredriksen 3-4 and Bradley Mesters 5-5.
We also enjoyed the 125 class. For a moment it seemed as if Kasimir Hindersson would win both heats. However, in the final phase of the second heat, Gyan Doensen managed to displace him from victory and won the heat. Hindersson only needed a second place to take the overall victory with a 1-2 ahead of Doensen 4-1, who had to come back from far in the first heat after a mediocre start. Markus Ozolins was third to take the stage 2-3. Yamaha riders Jarne Bervoets and Dani Heitink did well with a fourth and fifth place in the daily rankings, both of whom were already in the top three during the heats.
Timo Heuver scored maximum in the 85cc class and is therefore the first leader in the championship. Torre van Mechgelen finished second in both heats and Ricardo Bauer took third place with a 3-5 in the heats. Ryan Oppliger and Itay Weinberg completed the top five in Harfsen!
This was the first race of the Dutch Masters of Motocross in Harfsen, but we don’t have to miss the championship for long because the second race is already scheduled for Monday, April 1 in Oldebroek. Put this date in your diary and don’t miss it!
