It has this afternoon been confirmed that RFX Racing rider Shaun Simpson has damaged his fifth metacarpal following a major crash at the first corner of the MX1 race at Blaxhall yesterday. This will see Simpson sit out for the next few rounds of the MXGP.

Team Manager Dickie Dye has release the below information:

IN THE MX1 MOTO-1, DISASTER STRUCK ON THE HIGH-SPEED FIRST TURN, WITH SHAUN SIMPSON CATCHING THE FENCING WITH HIS RIGHT HAND, CAUSING A MASSIVE, MULTI-BIKE PILE-UP WHICH CARRIED RIDERS INTO THE TREES ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE TRACK. THE RACE WAS IMMEDIATELY STOPPED AND RYAN HOUGHTON REQUIRED THE AIR AMBULANCE, WHICH DELAYED THE RESTART BY OVER AN HOUR.(RYAN HAS SOME BROKEN BONES BUT IS RELATIVELY OK AND WILL MAKE A FULL RECOVERY). SIMMO`S RIGHT HAND WAS BADLY DAMAGED (NOW KNOWN TO BE FRACTURED) BUT WE ASSESSED THE INJURY AND MADE A DAMAGE LIMITATION DECISION (AS CHAMPIONSHIP LEADER), TAPING UP HIS BROKEN HAND, TO GO FOR SOME POINTS. SHAUN TOUGHED IT OUT FOR A 7-4 – P4 OVERALL RESULT AND ALTHOUGH WE LOST THE RED PLATE, WE ARE ONLY 5 POINTS BEHIND THE NEW LEADER TOMMY SEARLE.

UNSURE ABOUT THE NEXT FEW GRAND PRIX (DUE TO THE SS INJURY), WE WILL UPDATE YOU ONCE DECISIONS HAVE BEEN MADE REGARDING SHAUN`S GP SCHEDULE OVER THE NEXT FEW WEEKS BUT THE NEXT UK MAXXIS OUTING WILL BE AT DESERTMARTIN AT THE END OF THIS MONTH
