Early this morning the devastating news appeared on US news website TMZ that multi-time BMX X-Games gold medalist Dave Mirra was found dead, local Police say the 41 year old’s body was found in his truck in Greenville, North Carolina Thursday with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
The world has lost a true legend and pioneer of action sports, motocross riders and the action sport industry from around the world have been paying their respects to a great athlete – RIP Dave Mirra.
Honestly can't believe the news. @davemirra was and will always be an inspiration not only to me but anyone who knew the guy. Growing up just outside of Greenville I watched this guy win anything and everything. One of the first people to put eastern North Carolina on the map. Can remember like it was yesterday riding atleast once a month with this guy at our local track Crystal Coast all during 2008. Was always so happy and pumped to be riding his dirtbike when he could. He told me as a 12 year old to keep doing what I'm doing and follow my dream. That will always stick out in my head about Dave. A guy who followed his dream. Prayers to his wife and little girl. Thank you for the legacy you left behind Dave.
So sad to hear about Dave Mirra… A founding father to the action sports world. Hope you found your peace #RIP
