Every one loves the sound of two strokes and the young rippers of EMX65 took theirs on the circuit of Loket this weekend. In front of thousands of fans the Danish rider, Mads Fredsoe Sorensen, was crowned as the 2017 EMX65 European Champion today. With area races throughout the year, this weekend’s racing was the pinnacle of the season and the lone championship decider, a highlight for not only riders but fans alike.
This weekend was also scheduled to host the EMX85 Championship Final but it was cancelled after a red flag incident resulted in the tragic loss of the young Moldovian rider Igor Cuharciuc.
In the EMX65 race one on Saturday the two dutch youngsters, Ivano Van Erp and Damian Knuiman, had a fierce battle for the lead all the way to the finish after the early race leader, Jaka Peklaj while crossing finish jump.
Van Erp and his 65cc KTM took the race win one ahead of Knuiman with Mads Fredsoe Sorensentaking a close third.
While the top 3 where within 3 seconds of each other the fourth place rider, Antonio Gallego Ramos, was in a race of his own 14 seconds back of the leaders and 8 seconds ahead of Maksymilian Chwalikin 5th.
Today was race 2 and after an early rain the soil was quite soft but it didn’t stop the young gladiators from railing around the circuit. Mads Fredsoe Sorensen started third but passed Julius Mikula and Damian Knuman like a veteran.
The Czech fans cheered on the fellow Czech rider Mikula to finish second in race 2 after leading the first laps. Knuman held in to finish 3rd in the race but second in the championship and overall.
Race 1 winner Ivano Van Erp started 26th but with his never give up attitude he came back to finish 10th and reach the Championship podium!
