Thor British Youth Nationals Open class rider Tom Grimshaw will take a wildcard spot for the sixth round of the Maxxis ACU British Motocross Championship at Blaxhall on July 16th. Grimshaw is currently laying second in the British Youth Nationals and will come to the end of his youth British Championship career at the end of this season, so its great for Tom to have a chance to race in the Maxxis prior to going full on Maxxis next year.
Wildcard riders always add an extra sprinkling of spice to the Maxxis ACU British Motocross Championship supported by Pro Clean and among the fresh faces we’ll see in action at round six of the series at Blaxhall in Suffolk on July 16 is a face that’s, well, fresher than most!
At just 16 years old, HCR Putoline Apico Factory DBC Yamaha rider Tom Grimshaw will make his debut in the MX2 division and the talented teen – currently just 16 points off the Maxxis MXY2 series lead – can’t wait to get out there and mix it with the big guns.
‘”I’m really excited and nervous at the same time,” said Tom, who lives just outside St Albans in Hertfordshire. “I will be stepping it up from MXY2 for this one event as a taster for next year’s championship when I go MX2 full-time.”
The latest hotshot from a family of diehard racers, Tom – who writes a monthly column for Trials and Motocross News – may be young but he has his head firmly screwed on.
“I know I will be racing against some of the country’s best riders but I will be there to learn from them. My team just want me to take part and not worry about where I finish or the result and enjoy the experience.
“Blaxhall is one of my favourite circuits to ride and the Woodbridge club puts a lot of effort into the venue to make sure it will be a top event.”
So keep your eyes open for the #61 machine in just over two weeks’ time and cheer that little bit louder when he rips past!
