Currently riding high in second in the MX2 points table, Honda Adventure Centre rider Josh Gilbert is enjoying a breakthrough year in the Maxxis ACU British Motocross Championship supported by Pro Clean heading into the halfway point of the season at Desertmartin on June 24.
“I’m definitely looking forward to Desertmartin,” said the 20-year-old. “You could hold an MXGP there it’s that good. The track’s always amazing and I’ve got a little gap over third now which takes a bit of pressure off.
“Martin [Barr] will be fast around there, he always is. It’s his home track and the fans will get behind him.”
Josh is no stranger to the sweeping, sandy track less than an hour’s drive from Belfast in Northern Ireland. Having contested the last two Maxxis rounds there in 2016 and 2017 he’ll have an advantage over Hitachi ASA KTM UK’s series leader Conrad Mewse – who he trails by 21 points – who hasn’t raced there since he was on a BW85.
“I’m feeling good for it,” added Josh, who missed out on a career-first Maxxis overall win last time out at Blaxhall on a tie-break. “I’ve ridden there a couple of times in my schoolboy years and in the pros for the last two years. I didn’t do too bad at Desertmartin last time but my goals are much higher this year.”
