Loon-PLage hosted the first stage of the 3AS Racing French Sables Championship. Check out the official report below.
At the end of the suspense. And at the end of himself. Milko Potisek won at Loon-PLage this Sunday during the Ronde des Sables, the first stage of the 3AS Racing French Sables Championship season. Dominated by his Yamaha Drag’on Tek teammate Todd Kellett for almost 2h30, the reigning French champion took the lead of the race, at the best time, on the last lap. Potisek wins for the second time at Loon-Plage after his success in 2018. The two Yamaha officials are ahead of Cyril Genot, of Honda SR, who is on the podium at Loon-Plage for the second consecutive year. Mathilde Denis, from the Honda SR team, won the women’s category.
At 1:30 p.m., 300 drivers took the start of the 25th Ronde des Sables in history. Englishman Todd Kellett got off to the best start ahead of Mathéo Miot and Camille Chapelière. The pace of the race was insane and quickly a leading trio stood out: Kellett, Potisek, Genot. Behind, the Dutchman Lars Van Berkel on Honda, finally 4th, and the Belgian Yentel Martens, also Honda, ended up entering the top 5, getting the better of Alexis Collignon, Mathéo Miot and Jérémy Hauquier. At the start of the last hour, Cyril Genot let go, while Milko Potisek, despite an impressive fall, gradually returned to Kellett. The Englishman ended up falling on the last lap, leaving Potisek to win, despite the pain and fatigue. From the first event of the season, Yamaha left its mark on the championship. “It’s one of the hardest Rondes Sables I’ve ever done,” said an exhausted Milko Potisek at the end of the race.
On Saturday, the Belgian Randy Naveaux won in a big way in the Quads. Dominant from start to finish, he is ahead of Benoit Béroudiaux and the Norwegian Christopher Tveraen. Romain Couprie, out of form, gave up. In the youth categories, Tanel Bajeux won in Juniors on Honda and the Belgian Tom Dukerts in Espoirs on GasGas. The Sables 3AS Racing French Championship is taking a break for 3 weeks and is now heading towards the South-West. See you now in Magescq on November 19-20 for the Bud Sand Race.
